Almost everything made today includes some kind of fragrance. It is in soaps, cleaning products, laundry detergent, deodorants, and more. I could list a lot more but then all we would have would be a list. We utilize perfume for air freshener, on our own bodies and on the bodies of our pets. The sexual revolution of the 1960’s resulted in many changes in attitudes and customs. Women were burning their bras, and girdles were doomed as pantyhose were being developed. Women were taking ownership of their sexuality. They would no longer be sexual objects, but sexual beings. We’ve come a long way, and the feminist movement must be given credit for many of these changes.
Those changes included the wedding trousseau. The trousseau in some form as been part of human culture for thousands of years. From a time when all a woman (actually, a young girl) possessed was considered her trousseau, to Victorian times when a trousseau was an entire wardrobe that included a lifetime supply of lingerie, to more modern times, engagement has been a time for gathering linens, household items and new lingerie to fill a “hope chest.” Ironically, today new lingerie gets little attention!
